What’s a marketing persona and why should I define it?

What’s a persona?

A marketing persona is a template of a client or a prospect. The template generally includes the demographics, goals, aspirations, buying behavior, title, industry, education etc… Basically enough information to define a clear picture of the individual. This serves asInternet marketing input for keyword research and high quality content writing. This is a good link to a template persona. We share several personas on our website related specifically to Personas typically used by an Information Technology Services firm.

While some of you may find the persona an unnecessary generalization, its documentation is critical to be able to build a scalable sales engine.  If you are trying to explain this to a content writer with not as much IT experience as yourself, this will prove to be invaluable. It will also help you give direction to your thoughts and help define what traits matter and what don’t.

While building it you should probably talk to (survey) actual examples of these templates, or if those are unavailable do extensive research on LinkedIn till a clear picture of the profile surfaces in your mind. Keep in mind that most of the high quality decision makers in the IT area are reclusive on social media and so you may need to extrapolate here.
